As you probably know by now, LiVEJOURNAL has discontinued new basic accounts; the only two options are a paid account or a plus account. beckyzoole has proposed this:
The one-day content strike is on for this Friday, March 21, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT.
For 24 hours, we will not post or comment to LJ. Not in our own journals, not in communities. Not publicly, privately, or under friends-lock.
This is a protest that will have long-lasting effects, showing up forever in the daily posting statistics.
This is a protest that will not harm LJ in the long run, as leaving LJ might do.
This is a protest that will demonstrate the power of community, as all users unite to support Basic users and the concept of adfree space.
This is a protest that will educate the new owners that LJ is driven by user-created content.
How Can I Help?
DO post about this in your own LJ.
DO post and comment about it in appropriate communities.
DO remember that it's based on Greenwich Mean Time, which may not be your local time.
DO turn off LoudTwitter and your RSS feeds for 24 hours.
DO feel free to friend beckyzoole for updates, and defriend when the strike is over.
DON'T forget to get permission from community mods before making an off-topic post or comment about the strike.
DON'T be spammy with your posts or comments about the strike.
What's this about?
* It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.
* It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.
* It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.
* And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, fairies, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves. (Due to the protest from users, the interests are now back up in the list of Most Popular Interests)

annoyed
so i've returned to bottling things up. i've started posts but haven't actually posted them because they just seem so angry. I guess I am a little mad at myself for stopping school. It's possibly because I've had alot of people who don't mean anything criticize me about my decision. I don't know why I'm letting what these people say matter to me. Just needed to vent, and now I feel better.
the good thing is I'm leaving for spain in less then 2 months!!!! I just hope Madrid is gonna be ready for me

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished booking my flight to Spain! I'M GOING TO MADRID, I'M GOING TO MADRID! After 8 months of absence I will finally get to see my BFF. The countdown till April 21st in on!
- Mood:
excited
So with a heavy heart, I finally came to the decision not to return to school in January. I'm just no longer happy where I am and have decided I should just work off the debt and student loans I've managed to rack up in the past 3 years. Working in a grocery store is definitely gonna be lame but it pays decent.....
- Mood:
rejected
So today marks the end of an era in my life. My one and only BFF is boarding a plane in an hour to go live in Spain for AN ENTIRE YEAR!!!!!!!!!
I'm not begrudging her anything and I hope that she has a fabulous time, but I'm going to miss her like crazy. She was the first person I could absolutely confide in and who was always there for me without question or doubt.
This girl is my rock and my foundation and I just dont want to crumble with her now gone.

so how badly does it suck when you just get into an already existing show to have it cancelled like a year and a half after getting emotionally attached?
In case you weren't sure, I'm talking about Stargate SG-1 (and yes technically they didn't cancel the show, simply they chose not to renew it and there's movies coming out to finish the story lines but I'm rambling).
Most of my friends do not share my love for the sci-fi or fantasy genre be it which ever medium of movies, tv or book. However my girl A definitely shares this with me especially in all our fan girl glory (We will be quite busy mid July w/ her bday the Harry Potter movie and book releases, then my bday, then she moves to Europe for a year, which is frankly saddening my heart).
Recently she has unwittingly gotten me hooked on Battlestar Galactica. O. M. G. I actually got into it so quickly that I read very (emphasis on the very) detailed plot synopses of each episode so that I knew what was going on. Did I mention that I fell in heart with this show like a week before the season 3 finale?
Anyways, I can not believe how many girls are not watching this show?! I mean seriously women completely dominate this show: we have a woman president, the best pilot in the fleet is a woman who takes shit from no one (especially her superior officers) and most of the really cool, interesting "villians" are strong ass females.
But for the life of me I can't DL them anywhere so I can actually see the episodes I've read about (and yes I have read who the revealed cylons were; umm p.s. what the FRAK was the writing staff smoking when they chose those four characters to be revealed as cylons?? huh? huh?!)
If any friends could help I'd be much appreciative, and would be willing to reciprocate given that someone explain how to work free loading-up-ay sites... yeah i know i'm lame with the pig latin
